Skillsearch is helping an independent video game studio based in Toronto recruit an enthusiastic and dedicated Technical Director to join their inclusive and welcoming team. This full-time Technical Director role can be based in Toronto or remotely across North America and comes with an attractive salary and benefits.
As an attentive and collaborative Technical Director, you will be passionate about providing high-level direction, supporting a team of engineers, and getting involved with day-to-day development. You will also enjoy collaborating closely with the engineering team to build a technically excellent game across multiple platforms. Please note that a willingness to work in Toronto is preferred, but fully remote opportunities are available.
In your first few weeks in this Technical Director role, you can expect to:
- Manage a team of engineers, their performance, and career development
- Own the company's technological vision and guide the development of the technologies and systems
- Collaborate with designers, directors, and other departments to achieve the game's vision
- Determine what technology and middleware are best suited for each project
- Oversee the programming process and support in maintaining sustainable workflows
To apply, you will need proficiency in C++ and at least seven years of professional video game programming experience. You will also require the following:
- A degree in computer science, software engineering, or equivalent
- Management experience and a good knowledge of programming languages and software engineering practices
- Expertise in developing AAA titles on multiple platforms
- Experience with Unreal Engine 4 or other large engines
- Comfortable wandering around unexplored game design territory and excited to help refine ideas into shippable features
