Skillsearch is looking for a Technical Artist specialising in asset optimisation to join a gaming company in Irvine. This full-time Technical Artist role comes with a generous salary and benefits package. 

As a Technical Artist, you will monitor game performance and assist with optimisation across the project. This will include helping artists with technical pipeline issues, research and development directed at decreasing performance costs, and creating documentation for these processes.  

In a typical week, you will: 

  • Use profiling tools to monitor game performance and find problematic areas and assets requiring optimisation 
  • Edit assets in their original DCC software and Unreal Engine to improve performance, lower memory footprint and eliminate inefficiencies 
  • Experiment with content to find novel ways to reduce complexity while maintaining visual fidelity 
  • Create and maintain documentation for the optimisation process and best practices and champion the optimisation needs of the project to the team. 

To apply, you will need expert knowledge of creating efficient and performant game content on modern hardware. You will also require: 

  • Experience using a variety of DCC tools (3ds Max, Maya, Substance [Painter and Designer], Photoshop, etc.) 
  • Experience with Unreal Engine 4/5, modern profiling tools like PIX (desirable) 
  • Experience in games with role-playing elements (beneficial) 
  • Programming or scripting experience, such as C++, C#, Python, Blueprints, MAXScript, MEL script (desirable).
