Senior Game Designer in Guildford

Are you an experienced Game Designer with more than 1 shipped game under your belt? If you’ve got some experience at Senior level or think it’s time for you to take the set up from mid-level then this could be for you!

This studio is relatively young, but with backing from a highly successful parent company, the sky is the limit. They are looking for talented and passionate individuals to join their team and power forward to create next-level games.

This job will be perfect for you if you like a varied role, and are ready to immerse yourself in a range of tasks within a tight-knit studio.

Senior Game Designer Responsibilities:

  • Create exciting and forward thinking game designs.
  • Identify tweaks and updates needed in current gameplay
  • Create design document, flows, charts and diagrams with the necessary details and make sure they are maintained correctly
  • Ensure the game design is competitive by keeping on top of design trends, the current market and industry information

Person Specification for Senior Game Designer:

  • Ability to problem solve to a high level – always troubleshooting design issues and proactively identify and mitigate risks
  • Be an enthusiastic team player – work with the design team and wider studio to ensure the whole team are working at their best
  • Great communicator – communicate effectively within your team, and feel equally comfortable whether you are communicating with studio leads, helping junior team members or carrying out a presentation to the wider studio.

Required Experience for this role in Guildford:

  • At least 1 shipped game with your involvement through the full development cycle, ideally on PC or Console, that has proved successful
  • 5+ years experience working in game design
  • Previous work with meta-game systems and long term gameplay loops
  • A brilliant instinct for design mechanics, systems and direction, grown from your expensive experience in these areas
  • Knowledge of and experience working with past and current game design trends whilst looking for future trends and opportunities wherever possible
  • A need to approach game design problems with new and better solutions than you and the team have used before
  • It would also be helpful if you had experience working with the Unity engine, prototyping, and managing/mentoring others.

A little bit about the city: Guildford

Located in a beautiful spot in between London and England’s south coast, Guildford is a busy market town that has been recently updated to be home to some great modern facilities such as an award-winning sport centre, including an ice rink and athletics stadium. However, there is still some culture to be explored in this city, with its historic buildings, beautiful parks and a theatre. Sitting on top of a central hill, Guildford Cathedral looks over the city whilst being surrounded by beautiful, picturesque scenery, making for some great exploring. Situated just outside of London, Guildford is a short 35-minute journey into the capital by train, so is ideally positioned so you are not too far away from a day trip to the big city!
