Do you have 3D game-art skills, and are you seeking a new job in B.C. Kelowna, Edmonton Alberta or fully remote across Canada? Skillsearch is collaborating with a gaming studio looking for a Principal Character Artist, and the role comes with an attractive salary and benefits package.

As a Principal Character Artist, you will bring some of the first characters in the client's fictional universe to life. Working alongside the Creative, Art, and Narrative Directors, you will explore and define the aesthetic and set a gold standard for the quality of character art. Initial work will support pre-production and prototyping and later will move on to producing humans and creatures for the game at final quality.

In your first few weeks in this Principal Character Artist role, you can expect to:

  • Work with the Creative, Art, and Narrative directors to ideate and adapt aesthetic, gameplay, and narrative concepts into 3D game characters
  • Create all aspects of high-quality characters for Unreal Engine, including sculpting and texturing human and alien forms, faces, and hair, as well as soft and hard surface clothing
  • Assist with defining and achieving the final render quality through a keen eye for colour theory, articulation, surface response, shape language, and silhouette
  • Create, document, and share asset creation best practices

To apply, you will need ten years of experience or at least three shipped titles as a Character Artist - at least one as a Senior Character Artist. You will also require the following:

  • A portfolio demonstrating your masterful ability to create high-quality, realistic, and emotive characters and creatures
  • Broad 3D game-art skills, including experience with Unreal Engine 4 or higher, photogrammetry, shader editors, cloth simulation, rigging, and animation
  • A discerning eye for detail and anatomy
  • The ability to optimize the overall render quality of a character to a high standard while supporting clean topologies necessary for articulation and deformation

If you want to make a positive impact and create change, possessing an inclusive and committed approach, you will be rewarded with an excellent salary and benefits package.
