Lighting Artist in Edinburgh

We’re looking for a Lighting Artist with experience creating lighting in games to join a successful and innovative studio based in Edinburgh. As a Lighting Artist, you will be responsible for creating beautiful and lifelike lighting within their games, especially focusing on their upcoming title for their next generation of games.

You’ll be a part of a tight-knit team who are passionate about creating the best games out there. The team is made up of industry experts who have some world-famous titles under their belt, resulting in an innovative, fast-paced and motivating work environment. The studio is dedicated to allowing each individual to flourish in their work, so you can be sure that you’ll be leaving your mark on the work you create here.

Lighting Artist responsibilities:

  • Hold responsibility for the lighting of environments within games
  • You will be responsible for producing lighting, from making mock-ups to producing the final product
  • Work on internal, external and cinematics for all environments within games
  • Work alongside Concept Artists, Art Director and Cinematics Director to bring the vision together
  • Refining and tweaking until lighting and art looks perfect
  • Implement effects related to lighting, such as fog
  • Look after and reviewing lighting budgets
  • Take on feedback and use it to improve

Key requirements for this role in Edinburgh:

  • Keen understanding of colour theory, light, composition and form
  • Fluent in 3D rendering, texturing, modelling and lighting techniques
  • Experience creating quality lighting in games
  • 2+ years’ experience as a Lighting Artist
  • Experience creating maps, PBR and texture manipulation
  • Experience using 3D tools such as Maya/Max, etc.
  • Natural communicator and able to communicate across teams and disciplines
  • Interest in photography/cinematography would be a bonus
