Skillsearch has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and collaborative Lead VFX Artist to join our client's friendly and creative team. This full-time VFX art role is based in Irvine, CA, offering a compelling salary and benefits, along with the chance to be part of a positive and diverse workplace culture.  

As a Lead VFX Artist, you will ensure the success of the VFX department through mentorship, feedback, planning of tasks, and organization of features. The position requires experience with particle editing, texture creation, and real-time material with a creative mindset and a technical background. You also must have the ability to work onsite or in a hybrid capacity at the company's office in Irvine, CA. 

Some of your responsibilities in this VFX art job will include: 

  • Creating all aspects of in-game VFX, including character, weapon, environment, and destructive events 
  • Working closely with project management to ensure the VFX team addresses the artistic and functional needs of the content they are responsible for 
  • Evaluating and initiating processes and features needed to improve and streamline production 
  • Defining and maintaining VFX pipelines and practices to streamline the creation of assets that meet visual quality targets within performance limitations 

To succeed in this Lead VFX Artist role, you will need experience with real-time particle editing in Unreal Engine and excellent technical and artistic problem-solving skills. You will also require fluent knowledge of a 3D content creation package (Maya, 3ds Max, etc.) and mastery of Photoshop or a comparable program. In addition, you should have a web portfolio demonstrating proficiency in real-time particle creation. Any samples showing 3D modeling abilities or pre-rendered VFX work would be a plus. Also, 3+ years of game industry experience in real-time FX and at least one shipped title with a credit as a VFX artist would be desirable.
