Lead VFX Artist in London

As a Lead VFX Artist at this London-based studio, you will be taking on responsibility for creating stunning effects for new projects, as the studio transitions to using the latest Unreal Engine 5 technology. You will take on a pivotal role in driving visual quality of AAA games whilst simultaneously leading a team of VFX artists. 

This studio creates team based multiplayer games and with a successfully received title already under their belt, and an exciting new one in production, it’s the perfect time to join their team! It is important to note that this role is temporarily remote, with the view to move to onsite working once it is safe to do so. 

Lead VFX Artist key responsibilities: 

  • Oversee the VFX team on the creation of gameplay and environmental effects 
  • Guide and motivate the team through managing their assignments 
  • Enhance immersion and visual fidelity 
  • Ensure VFX goals are met for all game features 
  • Set and maintain VFX pipelines 
  • Advance techniques and visuals into new territory 

Essential requirements for this role in London: 

  • Have worked on three or more commercially released AAA games as a VFX Artist 
  • Highly skilled in VFX fundamentals including timing, composition, colour 
  • Experience authoring real-time VFX 
  • Understanding of technical constraints of console and PC performance budgets 
  • Strong knowledge of rigid body, pyro, and fluid simulation 
  • Experience with node-based shader pipelines 
  • Familiar with Unreal Engine 4’s VFX and physics tools 
  • Keeps on top of current trends in digital art techniques, practices, tools, software, and trends

Aside from the Tube, London offers buses, river buses, black cabs, ‘Boris Bikes’ and trams, so getting around the city should never be a problem!

Senior VFX and Animation Consultant Joe McKernan

Joe is our Animation and VFX Consultant, his passion for the latter springing from being blown away by the effects in Star Wars at a young age. His love hasn’t wavered and Joe always seems to bring out a new Star Wars t shirt every dress down we have! We are lucky to have him considering that he once got stuck half way up a mountain in Borneo so now he goes for flatter holidays – most recently driving across America in a Mustang.
