Skillsearch is helping a leading independent game studios in Finland find a Lead Environment Artist. The role is offered on a hybrid work-from-home basis with a few days in the Espoo office per week. It comes with a favourable salary and benefits package. 

In this Lead Environment Artist role, you will direct a group of artists in developing the look of game environments and contributing to the overall game experience. You define and track the schedule for the whole team and create staffing plans and estimates for your project. 

In your first week in this Lead Environment Artist role, you can expect to: 

  • Plan and organise your teams work delegating tasks and support your colleagues by mentoring and reviewing their work 
  • Work together with our Art Director and other leads to push project quality while keeping style consistent across all environments 
  • Work hands-on by blocking out whole locations to levels with greater understanding of art direction, gameplay, player guidance and metrics 
  • Advise, review, and provide feedback and guidance to external development. 

To succeed in this Lead Environment Artist job, you will need demonstrable work experience as a Lead environment Artist, Lead Level Architect or equivalent role. You will also require the following: 

  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Expert level understanding of shape, composition, and layout 
  • Familiar working either within Maya, 3DS Max or other 3D software package and have good technical understanding of game engines 
  • Good understanding for gameplay and level design.
