Skillsearch is helping a games company find a Lead Concept Artist/Visual Development Director to join their inclusive and collaborative team in Los Angeles. This full-time role offers a salary of up to $190,000 and some excellent employee benefits. 

As a Lead Concept Artist, you will work alongside amazing developers with experience on some of the largest AAA titles! You will be working with the Game Director and IP holders to set a vision and style for an exciting new multiplayer-focused project. 

In your first few weeks in this role, you can expect to: 

  • Develop and articulate each game’s unique aesthetic vision and standards through illustrations, documents, or any means necessary 
  • Direct concept artists to produce inspirational key art and model sheets for environments, props, characters, creatures and UI 
  • Supervise, review and steer the development of assets across multiple art teams to schedule, budget, and high visual standards 
  • Iterate closely with Design and Engineering teams to ensure all visuals support gameplay needs. 

To apply for this Visual Development Director role, you will need a deep understanding of art fundamentals, multiple art styles, anatomy and appeal. You will also require experience directing and supporting artists across multiple disciplines. In addition, you should have the ability to adapt to and innovate new styles and techniques. Additional requirements include: 

  • Deep understanding of arts disciplines and their workflow 
  • Leadership skills in order to lead a large number of people toward a singular vision 
  • Experience with effective feedback for outsourcing and contractors 
  • Experience working on a current-gen console or PC games (AAA title experience a plus).
