Skillsearch is helping a North American-based gaming studio find a Lead Character Artist to work on a remote basis. This full-time remote role comes with a salary of up to $160,000 and some excellent company benefits. 

The Lead Character Artist will partner with the company's creative leadership, including Art Directors, Lead Artists and Designers to create high-fidelity worlds for future AAA experiences. You will ensure the quality bar of art created both internally and externally stays consistent with project standards. 

In your first few weeks in this Lead Character Artist role, you can expect to: 

  • Lead a team of highly skilled internal and external character artists in the development of high-fidelity assets 
  • Conceptualise, present, and execute ideas within a schedule, while actively participating in technical and artistic problem-solving 
  • Use industry standard as well as custom toolsets to create optimised real-time character meshes and materials 
  • Optimise mesh and materials for real-time rendered characters. 

As a Lead Character Artist, you must have experience as a Senior, Lead, or Principal Character Artist, contributing to at least one AAA or comparable high-fidelity title. You will also need the following: 

  • The ability to manage internal and external artists 
  • Demonstrable experience holding others to quality standards 
  • Expertise in 3D modelling and sculpting, utilising packages such as Maya, 3DS Max, Zbrush, Photoshop, and Substance Painter. 

You will be rewarded with an excellent benefits package, including a salary of $110,000 to $160,000 per year.
