Gameplay Programmer in Guildford 

Are you a programmer by trade but want to be involved with something creative and beautiful? 

As a Gameplay Programmer at this studio in Guildford you will be playing a crucial role as you work to build gameplay features for their fun and unique game project. This role is currently remote due to covid restrictions but once the studio feels it is safe, they will be looking to have people working from their office in Guildford again. 

This small but rapidly growing studio is striving to help their players express themselves in fun and unique ways. They’re currently building a new multiplayer game so it’s the perfect time to join the team! As a part of their team, you will get to enjoy loads of perks from bonuses to wellbeing days to pension contributions, and more. 

Gameplay Programmer key responsibilities: 

  • Design and build key features that will support the team and game production for the current and any future projects 
  • Work with existing code to understand the current state of the game and where your next move will be 
  • Communicate effectively with art and design teams to turn their programming needs into a reality 
  • Use your enthusiasm for gaming to input areas that the game could be improved, both from a programming perspective and from the consumer perspective 
  • Support other team members across the studio 

Essential requirements for this role in Guildford: 

  • Extensive background of work using C++ across gameplay features such as controls, camera, combat, AI etc 
  • Able to use your experience to understand what makes a game feel wonderful to play, and how to turn that into technical specifications 
  • A team player – you’ll want to get involved with any aspect of programming that you think will help make the game the best it can be 
  • It would be beneficial if you’ve seen a game through to being shipped and if you’ve previously worked on a cross platform project

A little bit about the city: Guildford  

Located in a beautiful spot in between London and England’s south coast, Guildford is a busy market town that has been recently updated to be home to some great modern facilities such as an award-winning sport centre, including an ice rink and athletics stadium. However, there is still some culture to be explored in this city, with its historic buildings, beautiful parks and a theatre. Sitting on top of a central hill, Guildford Cathedral looks over the city whilst being surrounded by beautiful, picturesque scenery, making for some great exploring. Situated just outside of London, Guildford is a short 35-minute journey into the capital by train, so is ideally positioned so you are not too far away from a day trip to the big city!
