Full Stack Engineer - AI Systems

About the Role

We're looking for a Full Stack Engineer to build the product layer that transforms cutting-edge AI capabilities into dependable, real-world user experiences.

You'll work across frontend, backend and AI systems, designing workflows that can plan, reason, take action and recover from failure. This role goes beyond integrating AI APIs. You'll help build systems that enable intelligent, long-running workflows and deliver practical value to users in production environments.

Working closely with product, machine learning and engineering teams, you'll take ownership of features from concept through deployment while helping define the architecture of AI-powered products.

What you'll do

Full Stack Product Development

• Build end-to-end product features across frontend, backend and AI systems.
• Develop intuitive user experiences that leverage AI capabilities in meaningful ways.
• Design and build scalable APIs and backend services.
• Own features throughout their entire lifecycle, from ideation to production rollout.
• Collaborate closely with product, design and engineering teams to deliver customer value.

AI Systems & Agent Workflows

• Design and implement intelligent agent workflows capable of planning, tool usage and multi-step execution.
• Integrate Large Language Models (LLMs), memory systems and external services into production applications.
• Create workflows that can recover gracefully from errors, incomplete tasks and failures.
• Build systems that maintain context across sessions and long-running processes.
• Develop reusable abstractions and patterns for AI orchestration.

Reliability & Performance

• Build real-time AI experiences with streaming responses, partial results, progressive updates and low-latency interactions.
• Improve observability, monitoring and alerting across AI-powered systems.
• Design robust fallback mechanisms for model, API and workflow failures.
• Continuously optimise performance, responsiveness and reliability.
• Analyse system behaviour and improve outcomes based on production data.

Product Innovation

• Evaluate user feedback and real-world usage patterns.
• Identify opportunities to improve workflow reliability and user experience.
• Contribute to AI product strategy and technical roadmap discussions.
• Help establish engineering best practices for AI-native applications.

What we're looking for

Experience

• Strong professional experience in full stack software engineering.
• Experience building and shipping production web applications.
• Proven ability to take features from concept through deployment.
• Experience working in fast-moving environments with evolving requirements.
• Demonstrated ownership of projects and technical decision-making.

Technical Skills

• Strong frontend and backend development capabilities.
• Solid understanding of system design and API architecture.
• Experience building scalable and maintainable production systems.
• Strong understanding of modern web application development.
• Experience working with both relational and non-relational databases.
• Familiarity with cloud-native development practices.

AI Experience

• Experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI-powered applications and agent frameworks.
• Understanding of AI system reliability challenges.
• Experience integrating external AI services and APIs.
• Knowledge of evaluation, monitoring and optimisation strategies for AI systems.

Location: Remote from UK / Hybrid
Employment Type: Full-time
Salary Range: £60,000 - £80,000 GBP per annum
