Build Engineer in Sheffield

We’re looking for a talented Build Engineer to join the team at this award-winning studio in Sheffield. Your role as a Build Engineer will involve maintaining the stability of the project builds across all platforms and will require you to have a solid background in AAA games. This exciting opening is a great chance for an experienced Build Engineer to join a studio that is enjoying huge success year on year, this is your chance to become a part of it!

As a Build Engineer you will be responsible for the design and implementation of systems to automate building and testing a title, and for delivering regular builds to QA teams and customers.  You will capable of identifying the cause of any build problems, and for either resolving those problems yourself or communicating with other staff members to help resolve them.  You will be helped in this and report to the lead programmer on the team who will be your line manager.

Build Engineer responsibilities:

  • Maintain systems for existing projects and implement improvement strategies across the build and test processes for existing and future projects
  • Be an expert in the system tools and scripting languages which will allow you to automate build and testing
  • Skills to develop and refine tests to improve the quality of the testing process
  • Communicate any problems and provide regular reports on the status of build systems and the game builds themselves

Key requirement for this role in Sheffield:

  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbally and written
  • Experienced in TeamCity, Jenkins, and/or similar systems
  • Experienced in using build management tools such as Maven, Gradle, or similar
  • A robust understanding of SCCM tools including Perforce, git or Subversion
  • A strong understanding of Linux, OSX and Windows Operating Systems
  • Expert in a minimum of one scripting language (Python, Ruby, Bash, or Perl)

The following experience is desirable but not essential for the role:

  • Knowledge of a range of programming languages (Java, C#, C++)
  • Understanding of large-scale asset pipelines
  • Knowledge of deploying to cloud compute and storage environments
  • The aptitude to take criticism positively and respond well to direction
  • Previous experience of the Game industry
  • Experience in build tool chains used in console game development
