The summer months are always a busy time here for us at Skillsearch and 2023 has been no different, from promotions to awards, from football to comedy. Here is a recap of (almost) everything we have been up to this summer!
5-a-Side
We kicked off the season by sending our tech team (and Kai) to the Business Fives tournament to show off their 5-a-side skills, despite the heat, some crippling hay fever, and an injury to our star striker, our lads put on a great performance all to raise money for SpecialEffect! Bingo
Come late June, National Bingo Day (and the CEO’s birthday) rolled around, and we played in style! We whipped up our own personalised Bingo Cards and competed for a go in our lucky dip box, you can see one of our lucky winners choose his prize on our TikTok…
Play@Develop
Come July, it was time for one of our favourite times of the year! The Develop conference takes place right here in Brighton, this year we were back again with Play@Develop, our beachside event in aid of SpecialEffect! There were raffles, competitions and drinks in the sun all along with some of the best company the games industry has to offer.
This year we co-hosted the event with our friends at Glowmade, had the highest-ever level of attendance, and raised £960 for SpecialEffect!
Stand Up for Games Aid
The following week the games team attended Stand Up for Games Aid for the second year in a row, supporting games industry charities! An evening of laughter, fundraising and raffle wins, all supporting young people across the UK! We will definitely be at Komedia again next year...
Sports Day
Our jam-packed July continued with our annual sports day! Usually a simple game of rounders with g2 Legal, we took it up a notch this year!

Anniversaries
We celebrated plenty of workiversarys this summer too! Jack, Wade and Jake all celebrated their first year with us whilst Vic, Kai and Sam celebrated their second. And we cannot wait to see what they all accomplish before their next anniversaries!
Promotions
Plenty of congratulations were also in order for our team for this summer's promotions! Jake had his second promotion in 3 months! First becoming a senior resourcer, then being promoted to consultant just a few weeks before his 1 year anniversary!
We also had double the congratulations to give to the Development team as Ryan is now heading up our games team’s North American ventures as well as his role as the head of the development team! Meanwhile, Chay became a consultant after just 18 months under Ryan’s wing!

World Cup
This summer also brought us the Women’s World Cup! We gathered and watched the Lioness’s play every time we were in the office, with the sweepstake adding some extra drama. Despite England being defeated in the final, we’re sure our director Giles is happy with Spain’s sweepstake winnings!
Awards
In August, we were selected as one of this year’s winners of the People’s Platform Awards for outstanding company culture! This award recognises companies for their commitment to fostering a forward-thinking, employee-centric culture – something we pride ourselves on!
Gamescom
In late August it was time for gamescom! This is where the variety, creativity and passion of the gaming world comes together, this year in Cologne, Germany! Ryan, Joe, Andy, Emily and Giles headed out to chat with some of the greatest gaming talent. After all of this year's exciting game announcements, we will certainly be seeing you in Cologne next year...
