October's Hottest Games Releases

October's Hottest Games Releases

As the last of the summer drifts away from us into the miserable drabness of October, we can take solace in the fact that we now have an ideal excuse to stay inside and play video games… and what a time to do so!

We’re at that the point in the year where studios are ramping up development, ready for the November/December Christmas rush, but as a prelude to that, we’ll be seeing some blockbuster titles making their way onto storefronts sooner than expected.

Very few spooky games, unfortunately, but stay tuned to the end for a little blast from the past…

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

With the likes of Battlefront, Doom and even God of War franchises all undergoing a “soft-reboot”, one of the gaming industries' best-known series is seeming to throw his hat into the ring. Call of Duty Modern Warfare (not the first one) looks to bring a breath of fresh air to the tried and tested format.

For starters, the Multiplayer looks to have upped the ante, introducing vehicles, insanely customisable weapon systems and some of the largest maps ever seen in the franchise.

Also accompanied by the return of a gritty single-player campaign, and the fan-favourite co-op spec ops mode, with a new unrelenting survival mode and a variety of missions that you and a friend can blast through together!

Return to the battlefield on the 25th of October on PC, PS4, and XB1. Pre-order your copy today.

Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince

A bit of a change in tone now, but Indie darling Frozenbyte return with another title in the colourful, fantastical, and seasonally appropriate world of Trine, with The Nightmare Prince.

With the first two games in the series being 2D platformers focusing on jolly co-operation, the third game in the series made the jump into 3D, and somewhere along the way lost a little bit of its magic…

Now, the franchise has returned to its 2D roots, and promises a more nostalgic adventure through a whimsical tale in a drop-dead gorgeous world that you can’t help but grin all the way through 😊!

Pre-order your copy and join Amadeus the Wizard, Pontius the Knight, and Zoya the Thief in their latest adventure!

The Outer Worlds

Kings of some classic RPGs return to the foreground, as Obsidians new next-gen RPG, The Outer Worlds, approaches its release date. This title, in particular, has got a lot to live up to… being made by the team that made pheromonal RPGs such as Fallout: New Vegas and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, as well as having the original writers from the early Fallout titles!

Set in a heavily corporate sci-fi world, the Outer Worlds delivers multiple sprawling worlds, and the flexibility to create your own character, just as you want them to be, exactly as a good RPG should be!

Pre-order your copy and embrace the future on the 25th of October, on PC, PS4, XB1, and Switch.

Tom Clancy Ghost Recon Breakpoint

Carrying on from the success of their more recent Tom Clancy titles, Ubisoft look to be delivering their biggest third-person shooter project ever, promising a unique and stunning map, enhanced survival mechanics, and a seamless co-operative open-world.

Unlike previous, more “casual” shooters Ubisoft has worked on, I like the sound of the focus on realism and guerrilla warfare, with systems like dynamic & realistic injuries, and terrain features, such as hazardous snowy slopes or powerful rapids. This looks to be a much more hardcore experience for those looking for the step up on other, more formulaic shooters.

Pre-order your copy and join the fight on the 4th of October on PC, PS4, XB1 and even the Stadia.

MediEvil

Remasters of old games don’t tend to be included in this list, but I think we can make an exception for a PlayStation classic that was initially released all the way back in 1998, on the very first PlayStation console.

MediEvil remastered promises to completely build the game up from scratch, delivering elements such as refined and more mechanically sound gameplay, stunning visuals, and even 4k resolution capability.

I’m looking forward to experiencing the unique sense of humour the game had, just in time Halloween on the 25th October for the PS4! You can pre-order it here.
